Book Review: Simple Thai Food

I am so pleased to write my first book review on the cookbook Simple Thai Food by Leela Punyaratabandhu.

I recieved a copy of this book for free through the Blogging For Books program in exchange for my honest review.

Have you ever had a book dazzle you from the moment you looked at the cover? I experienced this with Simple Thai Food!

I would give this cookbook a five star rating in every aspect. The food photos (my favorite part) look tantalizing, well layed out, and the high quality paper and hard back cover enhance the reading and viewing experience.

On the inside, the text is clear and the the recipe instructions seem easy to follow, even for someone who is a complete novice at Thai cooking. I love that the author provides a wealth of knowledge organized in a simple format, while still retaining a friendly, inviting writing style. My favorite feature of this cookbook is the family anecdotes and introductory information that the author included before each recipe. It invites the reader to actually read the cookbook and learn some interesting history, rather than just skimming through the photos and recipes.

The only thing I would have prefered to see is a photo of every single recipe, as I am greatly visually inspired by a beautiful photo to actually cook a recipe, but as it was the majority of the recipes were photographed and the photos were stunning.

I wish I could say that I have attemped one of the recipes already, but I have not had the opportunity to stock up on the needed ingredients since I received the book. The recipes I am most interested in trying are: Crispy Dumplings (pg. 15), Pad Thai With Shrimp (pg. 123), and Coconut-Galangal Chicken Soup (pg. 84). I hope to share my attempts at cooking Thai quisine for the first time in a later post.

For now, I have immensely enjoyed looking at this cookbook, and would recommend it to anyone interested in Thai cooking as a beautiful and well written guide.
